Interesting Facts:
Favorite travel adventures that have made history truly come to life:
-Searching for Nessie on Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands, on an overcast rainy day (normal Scots weather)
-Racing camels across the desert in Aswan, Egypt, with my students (and "winning"!)
-Driving throughout Ireland on the left side of the road while sitting on the opposite side of the car
- Living in London and getting to experience the Tube/Underground everyday (along with umbrella usage)
- Meandering throughout Paris on several occasions browsing the sidewalk artists' creations (and REAL crepes)
- Running through the rain alongside la rive Seine (river) in Paris, trying to get to Notre Dame on time for evening service
- Walking the chalky white Cliffs of Dover and enjoying the strong English wind
- Camping against the ancient stones of Stonehenge on Summer Solstice, while watching a Druidic ceremony
- Hiking the snow-capped Swiss Alps and yodeling (or at least a sad attempt to yodel)
- Trekking up Mt. Vesuvius and standing over the center crater, overlooking ancient Pompeii
- Swimming at the volcanic center of Santorini, Greece, in the red sulfur water
- Feeling the majesty at the ruins of the Oracle of Delphi in Greece, in the highly unusual pouring rain
- Getting lost in Venice, Italy, because of all the tiny winding bridges leading to awesome little cafes
- Exploring ancient Ephesus, in modern day Turkey, with an 'interesting' shopping experience with Ms. Blair in a Turkish bazaar
- Feeling the intense power of the wind and blue waters of the Greek isles
- Sailing the Nile River and then swimming among the cataracts (luckily sans crocodiles)
- Listening, oddly enough, to a Florentine play James Taylor's "Carolina on My Mind" outside the Uffizi Gallery in Florence...
I have many more adventures from climbing the pyramids in Cairo, to my sandals breaking in Florence, seeing the Tuscan hills by train, running away from a strange taxi in Rome, almost getting thrown off a not-so-happy horse in the Dominican Republic, to things like accidentally drinking from the only non-drinking fountain I have ever found in Italy (with, of course, a huge sign in English "not safe to consume").
"The world is a book; those who do not travel read only one page".
Happy Travels!
